John’s paintings find inspiration in the relationship of shapes found in nature and in the human figure’s endless repertoire of arrangements. He has exhibited in Central Pennsylvania since the 1990s, both on his own and as a member of the Seven Lively artists. He has taught oil painting in Lower Paxton Township and Hershey and created three decades of poster artwork for Open Stage of Harrisburg.
As a child growing up in the Western Pennsylvania steel town of North Braddock, John wanted to become an artist from an early age. He began his art training at age 10 by attending Saturday art classes at the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh. He studied Graphic Design at La Roche College and became an advertising art director in Pittsburgh. Since moving to Central Pennsylvania, he has served as art director and illustrator for several advertising agencies and worked in print production for Giant Food Stores of Carlisle.
John accepts painting and illustration commissions and teaches at the Hershey Area Art Association. Experienced in several media, he currently focuses his energies on oil painting.
